PEDAL POWER - 01 November 2002
Collectors Gazette
The Uk Pedal Car Company was formed earlier this year, and specialise in the retail and the wholesale market for authentic pedal cars and pedal Aeroplanes.
Richard Adams started the company quite by chance , having owned a used car business for many years and was looking for promotional items that he could place on his forecourt that would attract the attention of the public.
Initially he purchased four cars and displayed them accordingly. Almost immediately, people were asking if the pedal cars were for sale, therefore Mr Adams ordered several more and on arrival they sold too!
This was back in May of last year and since then, everything that was bought into the UK has been sold, giving Mr Adams the insight to start the UK Pedal Car Company, and commence stocking the full range.
The products themselves are replicas of some classic models that were available in the 40's and50's eras, ranging from Sad Faced Sedans, through to the same in Fire engine versions, Taxi's and Police cars. There are also some gorgeous little Jalopies to suit 2 to 4 year old children, available again in sedan form, bright yellow Tow trucks and bright red Fire engines which differ from the Sad Faced range because they are slightly smaller and have the classic chrome oval radiator housing.
Other models featured are three versions of the super 1950's Murray Comet, Ford Roadsters, and Pick up's, the Model "T" ford, and a beautiful classic Ferrari replica racing car styled by the famous Giordani brothers. All the cars, except the racers, have an adjustable pedal train, which can be altered as the child grows.
Moving onto the planes, there are six different styles available, ranging from a US Army Pursuit Plane, through to the historic Red Baron Bi-plane. Each is styled quite uniquely, offering exquisite detail and aerodynamic lines. The Corsair is particularly pretty, being the only Tri Prop in the range, and if finished in a striking Dark blue.
Probably the most attractive feature of these cars and planes , is quite simply their build quality.
Construction is of steel, and the chrome finish is also of metal. There are in fact no plastic parts on any of the range, except on the jalopies, which purely have plastic chromed headlights. Most of the cars wheels run on a solid sealed bearing, ensuring longer life, and they are all finished in a lead free powder coated paint.
Even the solid rubber tyres are made of Duralast giving a much longer life than ordinary versions. In short, the entire model range will appeal to the most avid of collectors, either as a gift to a child, or simply to keep for themselves. Prices start at Just £159 for the Jalopies, and carry through to £399 for the racer. Planes again commence at £279.00, and £99.00 for the top of the range Red Baron.
The UK Pedal Car Company, also carry a range of delectable die-cast miniatures, mainly based on their Sad Faced range. There are eight available to buy, either individually or as a complete set, and once again are very detailed and mainly built from steel. They even have their own little pedals, which actually drive the rear wheels.
In terms of availability, the company keep high levels of stock at their distribution depot, and can deliver anywhere in the UK within 5 working days. They also export into Europe, so if something different appeals to your taste buds, this is worth checking out.
